Top 5 Aquarium Fish People Can’t Get Enough of in 2026
🐟 Top 5 Most Popular Aquarium Fish of 2026 🐟
Wondering which fish are taking over home aquariums in 2026? In this video, I break down the top 5 most popular aquarium fish I’m seeing everywhere — in stores, online, and in hobbyist setups.
These picks aren’t just about looks. I’m talking trends, behaviour, breeding interest, and why these fish are becoming favourites for modern planted and nano tanks.
From colourful feature fish to tiny schooling species (and one slightly controversial choice 👀), this list reflects where the aquarium hobby is heading in 2026.
📌 Fish featured in this video:
0:00 Intro
1:01 Pea Puffers
4:59 Honeycomb Bristlenose Pleco
7:58 Small Corydoras (Pygmy, Habrosus & Hastatus)
11:18 Blue Eye Rainbowfish (Pseudomugil species)
14:57 Rams (German Blue, Electric Blue & Black Rams)
19:32 Outro
⚠️ Not all popular fish are beginner fish — and I’ll be honest about care requirements, compatibility, and who each fish is best suited for.

Hey, great video. I'm up in Brisbane and our water is super hard, very jealous that your town water is soft. Ive been breeding neon blue eyes, Bolivian rams and sterbai Cory's.
Great options. All amazing fish
Love the pea puffers! For the ones in the US – if they make it a month or so they are basically bulletproof. Never lost one after the initial period where they may have been imported with disease
I recently made the mistake of putting my black knight rams in a black background quarantine tank….one day when i scoop them out ill see them again.
It's nice to look at keeping colorful fish in one aquarium.
Ist doch gut, wenn du mit der "Zucht für faule Leute" zurecht kommst! 😃
👍🏻👍🏻
Good list.I love my Bolivian Rams and am looking for more!
🌹🌹🌹
I tried breeding artificially dark knight ram last, pretty challenging, first try only get 3 survivors, 2 second I messed up and all die, 3rd try was good, about 60+ survivor, first 48h hours after freeswimming is key, now I got the hip of it, this years I’ll try to get my F2, and goal is to get my blueknight ram and maintain it
I have male guppies and ember tetras. I have a mystery snail for fun. I am a beginner. I like nano fish. I have a 20 gallon with hard water. Think nano is good because of costs of everything
I know you breed Hillstream loaches so I’m wondering if you also sell them
I want to breed in an empty 10g I have but I can't decide what to do…
I’m in Perth, with rainwater in my tank. I have Albino, Pepper, Julii & Pygmy Cory in the same tank. I have had pepper & albino fry that I have raised & sold. I can’t get the albino to stop! Also got about 80 Long Fin Zebra Danio fry from 1 female, 2 male also in the same big tank. Easy as! 😁👍🏼
We only have about 4 aquarium store here, (not counting the big box franchise store) & no fish clubs to catchup with other hobbyists or swap fish ☹️
Great video thanks for sharing
I just got pea puffers and I just bought a house with a huge office connected to the master bedroom now I get my own fish room
Yep pea puffers are good with tetras because tetras can out swim them. I had 3 puffers with neons, a bristle nose pleco, an otocinclus catfish and a julii cory catfish . All disappeared slowly but the neon tetra and no bodies could be found.
I’m still grieving a marketplace sale that I JUST missed earlier this week of a tank of 6 pea puffers for $150. Being a Victorian you’ll understand how heartbreaking it is to miss that deal 😢😢
One day I’ll have my peas lol.
In the mean time I adore my Bolivian rams and dwarf gourami
2:58 – How do you still have 6 if you started with 6 if you’re breeding and getting eggs every day? Are the eggs not making it?
I just recently saw a ram for the first time and fell in love… Were in the middle of setting up a 60 gal and a 55 gallon and plan on getting some.’, there gorgeous. I love my Cory’s, but I don’t think the dwarf look like a Cory, they look like a regular ol fish to me. I also want some pea puffers too, they’re way too adorable!
Good video. Keep up the good work Nat. See you & Wade at the club.
I love the Pygmy Cory’s too. They’re the only non Pleco that I can have with my shrimp. Next week I’m excited to get a bunch of CWC shrimp from LCA up north which is a fantastic company.
