If your gonna have duckweed might as well make it useful. I hate getting rid of this stuff by the handful when it chokes out a tank, and you can never seem to get it all, at least not in a quick manner. So I came up with one solution for the mass removal and another for the fine removal. Obviously the two things seperate are not my idea, but this is the method I came up with.

-Start by removing any floaters you want to keep and placing in your water change bucket.

-Then remove as much duckweed as you can(should only take you a couple minutes with a large net)

-Set aside duckweed

-Place internal surface skimmer into tank to catch any remaining duckweed over the next few days

-Place all your floater back into your tank that you intend to keep and gently shake off any of remaining duckweed clung to the floater(doing this near the skimmer is best so it goes there immediately)

-clean duck weed from skimmer, replace filter and close up your tank

Now that you've got a bunch of duckweed, bake it in the oven until dry, then crush into a fine powder or flakes and store.

I will be using this to replace the spirlina powder i feed my daphnia culture. Simply ad the powder to a bottle of warm water and shake till dissolved completely. Pour into your daphnia tank!

  1. Would a floating feeding circle do for you? I moved African cichlids in my tank with prolific duckweed and the duckweed was completely devoured.
