I've done plenty of freshwater fishing, and a bit of salt water pier fishing in Florida, but never surf fished before. I've heard great things about the Penn Battle series, but usually the battle 3 or 4. This one seems to be the original Battle? Im looking at the 9 foot, 6000 series combo. Thoughts?

I'm in southern california by the way, looking to mostly target perch and halibut, maybe rockfish too.

6k will be overkill for the surf in SoCal imo. 3k-4k is the sweet spot for SoCal, bigger reel means heavier reels means more fatigue when casting.
I rock a Okuma Rockaway SP 10’ M+ and a 4k reel. I think my rig is 15oz which is so nice.
