Why am I asking here?

I asked in a spider related subreddit but they said it was rage bait and banned me for not having him in an enclosure; but he's not -mine- he just lives in my house. He's probably the 4th of 5th generation I've allowed room and board in exchange for pest eradication services. I do a lot to make sure these little guys don't come to harm in my house down to not using certain pesticides because they might accidentally eat a bug that got some of it.

How do I know that's a he?

His "fangs" are green and bold jumping spiders are sexually dimorphous with males having green/blue chelicerae and females having orange/pink ones.

Okay what's the issue? Why are we still talking about spiders??

He's clearly pretty thirsty and maybe getting hungry and stopped by my least clown killifish and pygmy corydora tank for a sip of water and to hunt some flies. I am super worried he's gonna fall in and drown! I have seen it happen before, thankfully not in my tanks and would like suggestions to prevent this.

Why no lid?

It's meant to be viewed from above.

Please share your suggestions!

I would have suggested perhaps floaters but if it’s viewed from above that would mess up the view…so I’m not sure!! So cute that he’s using your tank as a little drinking pool!

  2. I know it’ll at least partially obstruct the view, but I think a (clear) hood is the only way to make sure he definitely won’t fall in. Maybe set a water bowl out near the aquarium so he doesn’t feel the need to go up to the top?

You could make a smaller version of one of those animal escape ramps people sometimes buy for their pools.
