I had a power outage for about 2 hours and my filter didnt sound right when everything came back on so i decided its time for the annual filter clean. I emptied the contents into a bucket and found a couple of dead feeder fish that got sucked up. No biggie. Then i saw movement. Lo and behold, these two goldfish were alive and kicking! Its been at least 4 months since ive bought feeder fish for my oscar so these guys were in there for a while! Especially the big one!! Im surprised its fins aren't damaged at all, he was found underneath all the filter buckets inside the canister. I didnt have an extra tank so this bowl will have to do until payday but ive got some red root floaters from my other tank in there and an air stone and i plan on doing every-other-day water changes. They're already tearing through the plants😅. I also stole some gravel from the oscar tank. If anyone has any tips on what more i can do for now please do share!

  1. A five gallon bucket might be better for now. Since goldfish produce a lot of waste there will be less time for water change. A sponge filter is fairly cheap of you have access in the interim.

If you have a spare storage tote, something that size could work. I have a 27 gallon tote I pull out for quarantine duty for larger/multiple fish. I think I paid $8 for it. For smaller fish I use 5 gallon buckets, but I have tons of those since I literally work in a bucket factory.
