I have 5 freshwater bumblebee Gobies in my community tank that I really haven't had all that long. Maybe 3 months max.
I was telling the owner of my fave lfs how happy I was at how active they are. Not hiding away but visibly 'marching' along scoping out their territory and bubble surfing sometimes with the chilli's & tetras. He said they must be really happy to be out and about so much.
I've read how difficult it is to breed them or even get them to spawn & I didn't have that as a goal but seeing the males literally light up in front of my eyes, bright golden bodies with pink glowing cheeks was amazing last week.
One started in the morning and by the end of the day all the males were dazzling & dancing, trying to get my poor female into their love nests đ
Sadly I don't think any of the eggs survived as I had to set up another tank for the eggs that day and wasn't sure how long to leave the dads in there fanning and guarding them till they snacked on any that emerged. đŹ
I got one of the smaller pieces of dragon stone out that one had some eggs in careful to keep it submerged as I moved it gently to the 'hatching' tank and put in air stones underneath and around it.
I did that on day 4 after spawning when I saw 2 of the males out swimming around again.
I had wanted to wait as long as I could to give them a better chance and establish the nursery tank seeded with spare sponge filters I always keep in my tanks as back up.
I could only see 1 little dude with his eyes looking out of the egg at the opening of one of the holes in the stone. I didn't have any infusoria for them and couldn't get my hands on anything. I knew brine shrimp were too big so I put a little green water from my bucket I'm preparing on the second & 3rd day but I couldn't see much life in it for any hatchlings to feed on.
** I'm curious has anyone had success with eggs hatching?
These are freshwater raised before anyone jumps in with they are meant to be in brackish water. And they have thrived in my care.
The bigger female is already beggining to swell again with eggs. I'm wondering if I am prepared perhaps next time I'll have success.
Any tips greatly appreciated.
I know I could take them out and put them in their own tank but they are so happy in my community tank which is heavily planted, I don't want to disrupt that.
This clip is in the morning when this guy was the first one trying to nudge her into his cave. After they all spawned by late evening the males I could still see guarding their eggs had turned almost black, laying in wait to pounce on anything that dared get too close.
