First time Betta owner here (and aquascape fish tank owner for that matter) I just got my boy, Luke last week and he’s already enjoying his home and being very curious. I only have 1 nerite snail with him which he mostly leaves alone). My uncle suggested that I add a female but I am worried that he will attack her. Any advice on if this is a good idea? Or should it be totally avoided?

Bettas are solitary and agressive. Males and females should only be together during brief periods for breeding, but otherwise must be kept seperate.

Do not add a female, even when bettas are put together for breeding they are “introduced” to each other before they’re allowed to make contact.

The male will likely attack and kill the female betta and they’re usually separated after mating.

Your betta and your tank look really nice though

  3. dont worry, he likes being alone 🙂 he’s the king of his own territory! beautiful boy, btw.
