Found in the wild on Marketplace. I don’t know much about high-tech systems (or if this even would be considered one) but like, $1800 for this seems insane right?? Or is it not?

Insanely expensive. That’s not even a nice light.

Assuming it’s an AIO rimless 65 gal tank, it could be had for under $800 with a stand. And this one does not even have the nice stand. Everything is exposed.

CO2 systems can be expensive, but not 2k expensive.

If I was on the market for one, I would not pay more than $400 for this. He can keep the stand too.

  2. Kinda outrageous for second hand.

It’s probably around what you would pay for that setup if you got all the parts including a custom-built stand brand new.

Probably around what this person paid for it, as everything looks new (no way those plants have been going more than a month with CO2 by the size of them!), but if I were about to drop that much on a tank and equipment, no way I would buy second hand!

It bothers me so badly that people expect 90% or more for their crappy tanks. Your 20 dollars 10 gallon tank is not 50 dollars holy crap.

    No

Couldn’t pay me enough to put the millennial coffee shop looking stand in my house

I can’t be the only one about by the “high tech setup” with the easiest plants that you could literally put in a mud puddle and they’d grow just fine.

Yea that’s 3-4x what it’s worth maybe even worse the “stand” isn’t something I’d even take free

Break down what high tech means. It means
    – decent light
    – co2
    – high capacity bio filtration (typically good quality canister).

That’s it….that’s your high tech tank. That’s all it means. Quality of aquarium doesn’t really matter – in the sense of adding to the tech – of course nicer glass is nicer to look at, quality of build etc..but it doesn’t add to the tech part

So get gpt or some other ai to get some prices new and then you can calibrate your price expectation.

Just from the picture I would say this is wildly overpriced. Like wildly. Without knowing the brands of eqpt (light, filter, co2 regulator) its hard to know but….I can’t see a canister, the light is definitely not one of the high end ones because they are not mounted like that, no mention of aquarium brand…hard pass

  8. If they are truly moving out, watch how fast this setup drops in price as moving day approaches

Lol my tank looks way better and is much bigger, and I wouldn’t even sell it for $300

This is someone who expects to get the majority of their investment back on the tank, which just isn’t how it works.

  10. My 75 gallon set up was~ $1000, $1300 if you include the sub floor reinforcement. For $1600, I would hope it had a FX4 with it at least. I’m averse to buying used stuff, but I did target Petsmart sales for the ensemble, filter, aeration system, and heater.

  11. I’m working on a speech for my local fish club about buying fish tanks and gears on the cheap to build a fish room and I have a ton of examples like this. People want all the money they put into it back instead of taking a loss.

Someday this guy will sell his 101 Corvette while wearing his new balance shoes and talking about how this car was special because it’s the only yellow car made on a Tuesday that had a cupholder with a blue lightbulb

I’ve noticed so many people on marketplace trying to sell things for what they presumably paid for them to begin with. Sometimes even more!

It’s particularly ridiculous for aquariums because you’re *taking a risk* when you buy used. You don’t know how the tank was maintained and stored, or whether it already leaks. Below ~15 gallons they’re pretty rough and tumble, but the larger the tank the more wary I am.

That person probably has put at least that much money into that tank. Maybe even twice that. But that doesn’t mean it’s worth it to anyone else.

  13. By way of comparison, I spent $40 on my 65gal set up that included the stand, the hood, and lighting.

Typical FB marketplace ridiculousness. He’s probably asking $10k for his 2005 beater F150 with 200k miles too. 🤣
