I got these hooks in a mystery tackle box – they’re sharp as hell & I may be over thinking this but what is the benefit of the shape?

Keep the bait from sliding down as much on a bite/snag? I’ve not seen it before, but that’d be my guess.

Realistically probably almost nothing. It looks different. It’s likely just a sales gimmick because a lot of guys will buy something off the shelf just because it looks a little different. Probably fishes exactly the same as a regular EWG.

I believe they claim it keeps fish hooked better. I think they just did it to make people notice it and pick up a pack personally.

Almost all innovations in fishing tackle catch WAY more fisherman than they do additional fish.
Regular worm hooks have caught billions of bass and won tournaments for 50 years. A little bend in the hook isn’t going to change that and it’s not going to give anyone an edge. It’s going to sell those hooks to dumbasses for $0.85 more per hook, though.

They were an attempt to copy without copying Trapper hooks. The idea is that the shape makes it harder for the fish to throw the hook and/or induce secondary hooking, i.e. the hook slides out enough so the point can penetrate the fish’s mouth a second time. They’re fine hooks, most people consider novel hook design as gimmicky. Maybe they’re better, maybe they aren’t. I can say from using those hooks specifically that they aren’t any worse than a standard EWG in my experience.
I personally liked the Trapper hooks, if they worked better than regular EWGs, no idea. I’ve never had a fish throw an EWG that I can recall, but I did appreciate the bait presentation they offered.
