Hey y'all, I've only ever owned 12ft sit on top kayaks and am looking to get a new one. im 6'0 215lbs and like to stand and fish.

I typically fish grass flats and mangroves in FL with a lot of fly fishing. Is 10ft too short for this?

Thanks in advance!!

  1. Yes. A 10ft would not be good for someone of your stature. Also the 10ft is much less stable for standing.

  2. If you’re used to 12ft, yeah it’s not gonna be as stable to go to a 10 ft. I have a 10 ft, I’m 6 ft tall & weigh 200. I stand & fish on mine w no issues

I love the Eagle talon by the way. It was my first SOT. You can get away with a 10 footer sheltered water, but they are not as fast. Honestly unless you need a shorter kayak for storage or transport, or are in an area where you need to turn quickly, I can’t think of a reason to go shorter. The Talon paddles like a truck, any new modern 12 foot kayak will feel like a vast improvement.

I am sure there’s something to let you do this, but it will have to be at least a 36 +inch wide 90 lb hull.

10 foot is only good if you fish a lot of running water where you need to maneuver quickly other than that 12 footer is way better
