I've heard stories of snails that stowed away on plants getting out of control in an aquarium. I'll be honest I never have done research into snails and which ones or good not. I spotted this little guy yesterday, should I leave this little cutie alone?

  1. look at him! he is friendshaped!

if your snailpopulation get out of controll or your tank is overrun by snails something is wrong with your tank. looks like a pond snail or a bubblesnail. they feed on dead matter, so either your plants die to much or you overfeed if they multiply to much

  2. I have a pond snail. I have come to love it. It came from my medaka pond. They are very sparkly. I have not had it breed yet. I also learned they eat hydra and I had a few show up in my betta tank, so I moved him and they are gone about 3 days later. I also always thought that ramshorns were scary too, but I had a tank with hair algae so I brought them in and I really have been enjoying them.

The only reason people dont like them is they can eat fish eggs. If youre not trying to breed your fish in that tank they’re pretty nice. If there’s excess nutrients they will have a population boom

I have some of these guys and they are pretty and cool.

However, people will say they don’t, but I’ve seen them eat some love plants when they get bigger. They will eat Spirodela(giant duckweed) and I’m like 90% sure they’ve been biting my crypt nurii.

Other than that they are chill and I haven’t witnessed them eating any other plants.

Edit: they are Raddix snails/Big eared Raddix snails.
They will breed like crazy. They are my most prolific snail. If you don’t want a ton of them I suggest removing eggs when you find them.

  5. I always consider snails as friends, even in situations where their population crosses 100 in a 100-liter tank. If this kind of population increase happens, the best thing to do is to shift them into a separate 5-liter or 10-liter glass bowl or jar.

Fill the jar with floating plants, and occasionally drop a small amount of food. This will not increase their population rapidly, but it will also prevent it from decreasing too quickly — it helps maintain a balance.

But to be honest, at the end of the day, snails should never be considered pests. Instead, they are hard workers who eat leftover food, sometimes even dead fish, and a lot of algae as well.

  6. There isn’t a single cell in my body that doesn’t absolutely adore this little guy, what a world we live in that this is a real life creature
