Hi everyone,

I recently contacted a retailer about the Shimano Tranx 400B and 300B, asking specifically about minimum comfortable casting weight. They told me that both reels cast comfortably starting at around 2 oz (≈56 g), and that the difference between them is very small.

Honestly, I’m a bit skeptical that the minimum comfortable casting weight would be that similar between the 300 and 400 sizes, given the differences in spool size, mass, and inertia.

So I’d really appreciate input from people who have used both reels extensively.

Questions:

– From your real-world experience, what is the minimum lure weight where the Tranx 400B starts casting comfortably and consistently?

– Same question for the Tranx 300B

– If possible, please share weights in oz or grams, and mention braid setup (line test, lure type, etc.)

I’m especially interested in practical comfort threshold — not absolute minimum with perfect conditions, but where it feels natural and efficient for repeated casting.

Thanks in advance!

  1. For me personally I own a Tranx 301B and been enjoying it for swimbaits from 1 ounce to 10 ounces.
