This afternoon I went canal fishing on the Shropshire Union near Chester UK with my Savage Gear SGS2 Ultra Light 0.5-7g rod , only second time using it .

After blanking (as always ) I headed back to car and attempted to break it down into its 2 pieces , I made a big beginner mistake which I'll never make again , what I did was I left the ned head and lure wound all the way to the very very top of rod and when I pulled it apart instead of a 2 piece rod I now have a 3 piece one 😢 !

Is it possible to get a new top half of rod from Savage Gear or is it possible to have some kind of fix , as you can see from picture it's not a clean break.

  1. Technically, there are ways to repair it (splints, re-epoxy, etc)…but lots of times this is just temporary fix. You’re likely better off replacing with a new rod. Dont rule out a good penn combo or even basspro (or similar branded) rods

  2. Creepy-Awareness-264 on

You got a 1 year warranty on that rod. If not call them they should be able to ship you a new tip. Or go and get a used one from like fb market place, Or snip off the end and put a new tip guide on it.

  3. Try to get a new top section. If this rod is still in production, you might be able to get it through official channels.

  4. It’s possible to repair it of course. But it won’t have the same sensitivity or feel. I would just recommend RMA if it’s worth doing, or just buying a new rod.

  5. The crack runing downward on the rod means that it’ll always be weaker even after repairing it. If you have the means to get a replacement half (or whole rod), I would recommend doing that.

If you cannot get a replacement, trying to fix it is better than throwing it away. If that crack stops before the next eyelet, it might be a good idea to try cutting it off below the crack before installing a new tip. Be generous with the adhesive

  6. You can cut the rod down to the next eyelet but it will be a bit stiffer in action. It’s the cheapest option
