The wife and I are going to Playa del Carmen in May. Since I'm an early riser and she's not, I'd like to bring my shore fishing rig and try my luck at dawn. We're staying close to the north ferry pier (Muelle Constituyentes) and was wondering if it's open for fishing.

Most other mentions of that pier are from almost a decade ago shortly after it was built which say you cannot fish from it, but I saw one recent post that said you can.

So I'm asking here with the hope someone has some actual recent experience. Thanks!

  1. Are you white/non-hispanic? Do you speak very good Spanish?

I ask this because by doing what youre proposing you are unfortunately opening yourself up to being harassed by local police/wildlife and “committing a crime” which can be resolved by either being arrested and taken to the station to deal with it, or “paying the fine directly to the officer” of somewhere between $1000-$3000 MEX (about $60-$150usd) which isnt a huge deal but an interaction you’d probably prefer to avoid. This is just the nature of the area, which is to separate tourists from their money by all means necessary.

If you really wanna fish, get a Mexican fishing lisence (online I believe) and fish from the shore which are by law public property.
