It’s my first tank ever. When I set it up two months ago, the idea was to put shrimps in it.
But I since fell in love with bettas, and I wonder if I could instead use it to keep a betta.
It’s a 5 gallons tank (23 liters). I have a heater and a sponge filter.
I set it up and planted two months ago and didn’t put shrimps in it yet because it’s my first tank and I wanted to be sure everything was ok, that the plants were not dying, etc
Is it ok for a betta fish? Should I change things like filtration, add more plants, a cave to hide or anything else ?
Or should I stick to the original plan and put shrimps in it ?

you 100% would need a lid for the tank and then you’d need to fill it up more sine it’s only about just over 3/4 full and bettas really benefit from the full 5 gal. also you’d need heavier planting , including ideally some anubias since bettas need resting spots as well. if you don want to make these changes i’d stick with shrimp, or you can re plan the tank for a betta 🙂
