So I’m from central Oklahoma and I’ve never gone fishing anywhere with an ocean, the closest I’ve been is Texoma. I know a good bit about freshwater fishing but not a thing about saltwater, this summer me and the family will be taking a trip to Hawaii (Oahu to be exact) and I’m wondering how to catch fish. I’m not really concerned with size or anything I just want to have a fun time and catch some native fishing bringing a medium light spinner with 6 pound fluoro line what setups should I use for live bait on the beach?

  1. Look up a whipping rig. It’s kinda like a Carolina rig but with a water bubble instead of an egg sinker. You’ll want either chunk bait like tako(octopus), or shrimp chunks or small 2inch grubs and flukes. If you’re getting stuck on reef, use less water in the bubble so it floats more.
