I’ve had my betta fish for nearly three months, in a heated, planted 11 gallon tank. I woke up this morning to see that he had died during the night. He was absolutely fine yesterday, vibrant colours, flowing fins. Eating well. I had researched a lot before purchasing him so knew not to overfeed etc. I’ve also had a lot of fish in the past so know about making sure the tank has cycled properly.

When I took him out of the tank I noticed he had a small bulge on his stomach that looked slightly golden colour but otherwise no signs of anything wrong. I’m perplexed as to what happened also I don’t know what to do with the tank now. There’s one nerite snail in there but otherwise it’s empty, the plants are thriving. I know the cycle will die off soon if I don’t add another fish. The pic is from a few days ago, the damage to his fin was there when I got him from the shop.

  1. I’m sorry, unfortunately betta fish aren’t bred for health, it’s difficult to know what happened but possibly a tumour? You can keep adding a little bit of fish food to help keep the cycle going, the nerite will help too
