Okay SO.. I got kuhli loaches probably a little over a week ago and haven’t been able to go to the store for more plants yet which I believe could be the issue here. They’re CONSTANTLY going insane unless it’s dark, so I’ve been trying to keep the light off as much as I can. What kinds of plants or hides do you suggest to help them out? This is a 10 gallon and I have 4 and a betta with two nerite snails. Please excuse the low water level, I’m adding water as you read this 💔

Second part of the video has the blue light, when it’s fully dark they’re even more serene 😔
they need places to hide
Yeah, they want to hide somewhere. Give them that or take them back and get a fish that doesn’t mind open water swimming.
Ours love cave decorations. We have one that looks like 3 stone textured orbs and they love to sleep and eat in it, or in the roots of bushy plants like amazon swords. However, kuhli’s are also ridiculously gregarious and frequently engage in what we call “kuhli madness” where they swim around like this. But yes, space, caves, plants.
There’s no way a betta is happy with them in there
Adding a few more will reduce their stress.
No hiding places! You’re driving them crazy!
Ceramic shrimp tubes and low arches. basically they seem to love small places. They have dug tunnels beneath some of the rocks and also will hang out in the shadow of the driftwood, but the tubes are what my guys like the most. Keep in mind kuhlies are rather imprecise and heavy swimmers so dont get them anything that is meant for fish to ‘hover’ in.
I made the mistake of putting this ugly tube in there that came with some moss. I intended to remove it eventually, but it became their #1 most favorite spot and now I would feel bad.
Also try giving them some leaves. they frigging love leaves.
They like to stay under rocks or in decor during most of the day.
You need hiding spots.
Even a pvc tube to put in for now while you scape will help them a ton
get 1/2 more and they will feel more confident, they’re social! as for hides, go to dollar tree/plant shop and get some terracotta plant pots and partially bury them at a more downward angle. wash them in hot water and distilled vinegar, and rinse with plain hot water. just make sure they’re not painted and they’re just plain clay pots
