Pretty much what the title says. After months of putting aside money I finally bought a Shimano vanquish c2000s. It's been a dream reel of mine for years and I was super excited. My dad wanted to have a look at it since I was so hyped, and he then immediately proceeded to drop it onto hard tile 🙃 I'm absolutely crushed right now. Especially since this is literally the worst possible place you could break a reel. Do you all think its still fishable? everything else seems fine, and the crack doesn't go all the way through. If not I'll probably be selling it for parts.

  1. Damn. That would really make me sad too. Sorry that happened.

Honestly I dont know if this is possible but you might be able to send it into shimano if thats not a JDM version and have them do a service and just buy the body. Or you can just say dad, can you make this one up to me? He did break your reel. If he is unwilling to make any reparations then that’s a super lame and shitty move by a father.

Beyond this, I dont know what else to say. I would not be able to fish a vanquish with a cracked foot like that, just couldn’t enjoy it with such a structural imperfection .

  2. I mean… it’ll still fit on a rod so you can certainly try. I suspect you’ll find out very quickly on your first decent fish (or even hard cast with a heavy lure) how detrimental that crack is.

Even though this is was the result of user error it’s still worth contacting Shimano to see if they can help you out in any way (discounted replacement, etc.)

  3. Plat.co.jp sells individual parts of reels. You can buy the piece that’s broken for around $55 USD and fix it yourself.

  4. Honestly if you’re that concerned about it, jb weld the fuck out of it and fish it. When I was in high school half of my buddy’s cars were held together by that

JB Weld (for plastic) in the back of that reel foot (where you cannot see it) and just fish with it.

The repair cost will be very likely over 60% of the value of that reel: for that crack they will have to change the entire body of the reel – basically a new chassis.

FYI, I have the same Vanquish C2000s (previous model) and I love it more than my Stella. I use it for Light and Ultra Light applications and I assume that you will do the same and you will not put a lot of force on that reel to break it completely.

Dude force your dad to replace that shit. Like seriously raise some hell. You worked way too hard just to say “oops”. tell your dad how much it was and how hard you worked to get it.

There’s a product called Kneadatite that’s a two part coextruded epoxy that’s designed specifically for repairing cracked metal parts. It won’t look pretty after you apply it but it should hold the piece together. I know about it because I was once the plant manager for the company that made it. You can buy it on Amazon. Get the grey stuff, not the green.

Personal I wound just zip tie the hell out of it onto the rod like as much as you can lmao
