Any ideas? It’s a weird film and has a very strong smell (almost like off fish fingers)
Checked water but will be taking it a sample to my local shop for a better reading

It looks like no surface agitation is happening so my guess would be biofilm formed on the top layer as a result.

Just lay a paper towel down on the surface and pick it up again.

It’s just biofilm, nothing to worry about. Increase surface movement if you want it to stop forming.

Just biofilm. If you wanted or have space in the tank there are a couple of options of certain inhabitants that could eat that. Also surface agitation does help such as an air stone or filter flow.

As others have said you should get something to disturb the surface. A small bubbler or skimmer would do it. Not sure what filtration you got going but if you have a jet type outlet you can point it slightly up pointing towards the surface to increase agitation.

Air stone, or sponge filter will create some surface agitation and prevent that

Where’s the filter?

I saw someone as a quick fix just lay a paper towel layer to absorb the film. You probably want to see what’s causing it bevause I’ve never had it build up so much. Maybe a snail is rotting somewhere in there or some food?
