Was finally able to get out on the water after a week of work and the cold snap. This was the first time successfully using a drop shot rig at two different ponds. Here's how the catches went down:
Pictures 1 and 2 are the same fish from different angles. I was using a Berkley Powerbait Champ minnow in emerald shiner after completing a full lap around the pond. Picture 3 is the recorded weight.
Pictures 4-6 were from a different location, and using the same setup as before. Though slightly smaller than my first fish by a pound (picture 7), it was a good catch. It's the last photo that had me a bit more excited.
I've known about spotted bass roaming in Illinois waters, but never caught one myself…. until today. This surprise catch came from the same pond as bass #2, and was full-on geeking out because this is one of my target species to catch this year.
