I want to get into lure fishing, so I decided to remove the unknown strength mono from my old reel and replace it with braid. I've never done this before though so I'm not sure if it's any good?

Mainly is it overfilled, underfilled, or just right? Apparently the rule of thumb is 2-3mm of lip should be showing, but I'm having difficulty gauging that.

  1. Looks overspooled from the angles you have shown. The line also seems protruding out on the bottom right of the spool in your second picture.

  2. GoGoGadget_Gir on

Send it, you may get some swell when it gets wet and it may start flipping loops, then just take 10 or 15 yards off and you’ll be perfect. I’d use it though first because the braid may settle in tighter and be perfect.

  3. A little over done. Always leave 1/8th -1/16th of a inch allows for line swell. Tight Lines

  4. That might be a bit overfull, which you’ll figure out quickly is loose loops want to slip off during use. You may just need to cut a bit off.
