Hey yall. So I’m somewhat new to fishing still and I picked up this fishing rod from a friend who didn’t use it much. So when I’m trying to reel something in it’s not really reeling but the reel is moving when I spin it. Any idea what’s wrong?

When ypur bail is open like in the photo the line needs to go straight up,not around it.
User error but easy to fix.
The little red piece on the very front of the reel turns. That is your “drag”. Turn it to the right a bit and see if that helps. You want to be able to pull line off the reel with some resistance. Tighten it too much and a fish can snap your line. Hope that helps and makes sense. Cheers and happy fishing.
