Rod holders

Okay so what’s this circled recess for? I always joked it was a cup holder but like… is it really? I was hoping it could house a rod holder.

Either way, I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to attach a rod holder to this kayak. I used a stock photo for convenience, she’s out in the shed.
