I'm still not counting it as having gotten a carp from there yet but this was a cool one. It weighed in at 3Kg.
When I got to my spot I noticed this fish swimming up and down, hard not to, it shines like the beacons of Gondor. I spent a few minutes watching it and noticed each time it moved up and down it spent some time around the single clump of reeds in the water about 20 meters from the bank. I figured if it's interested in that area other fish will be too.
I quickly set up my pod and my first rod, simple setup with a method lead, short braid hook link with a simple knotless knot hair rig. I put a small ball of pack bait on the lead and two kernels of corn on the hair and put it out just to the side of that clump of reeds. I was hoping to trap this one if it came by again or perhaps snagging another fish visiting the area. I was busy rigging up the second rod when the alarm went wild. Lifted the rod, felt there wish a fish and then saw the golden koi roll over and start performing.
It turned out to be a lot stronger than I'd expected, gave a nice little fight and tried to get me under an overhanging tree. I got the weight and sent it back. Those reeds seem to be on a hump under water, and the carp definitely feed around them, I saw the reeds being bumped and shaken several times. So although it wasn't a very big fish, it's shown me a really promising spot to target.
