Hello Reddit
I want to seek advice on how to keep tanks cool over the summer
I live in a tropical country, and it's not even the peak of summer yet, and my tank is already 28°C, nearing 29°C. Am I overthinking this, or can they tolerate higher temps for a time? I have a betta, nerite snails, and amano shrimps, btw.
My tanks are in a room with no AC, just an electric fan, but I do have aquarium cooling fans in both of my tanks. I am most worried when it gets too hot, and my cooling fan can't keep up.
I'm guessing the temperature can reach 30°C to 33°C, or even higher, around April.
I have a 5-gallon and an 8-gallon tank
Both have cooling fans, aerators, and HOB filters
I am a newbie and got my tank set up over Christmas, so it wasn't a problem back then.
I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Ice can help, although it will probably be a tedious process. Commenting to boost you because that’s the only method I’ve heard of. Generally the water should be slightly colder than the temp of the room but yeah, ice cubes is the only method I’ve heard of. Maybe get a damp towel, put it in the freezer or fridge, and try to drape it over the tank?
Frozen water bottles/ice bags can work, just replace as they melt.
If you have fans blowing across the top of the water, that is one way. Also keeping the tank lights off, and keeping the room dark will help too.
They do make aquarium chillers for the purpose of keeping temps down, but they generally run a few hundred dollars for just a small one.
