I'm quite new to using baitcaster reels and I've got quite some backlashes. I'm wondering if my line is supposed to go under the first, thicker steel rod/bar?

Your line is supposed to go through the eye not the bar, not anywhere else. If you look, you can see a hole that’s where your line is supposed to go in. Another thing if you’re having backlashes learned to adjust the knob on the side that controls how fast your lure falls. You want it to fall to the ground without any backlash.
