Is that sand being pumped? How does that not damage the pump?

I had something similar, the pump hose disconnected after awhile at the bottom of falls, got pissed and yanked it. I hope you have better luck/results because this looks cool af

I wonder if anyone has done any work on the BOD removal and ammonia removal of those sand waterfalls. They are basically a destabilized fluidized sand bed, so they should really help with water quality, as well as looking amazing.
