Rod tips are usually pretty easy to replace.
You’d get an instantly better result if you just put a new one on instead of fiddling around trying to clean that bear trap up.

It depends on what that material is. Ceramics, like silicon carbide, are very very hard and would not be easily polished.

If it’s just the tip (giggity) I would replace it with one that has a harder insert, if it’s all the guides then maybe just look for a better rod.
A tip top and adhesive (you can use glue stick glue) is only a couple of bucks.

Buy a new tip. Heat it up with a lighter and pull of the tip. Then replace it wit a new one.

If it’s a cheap rod, maybe easier to just replace it entirely. But you can heat up the glue on the tip and pull it off, you’ll probably have to gently cut the fibers and just use one of those cheap eagle claw kits from Walmart to replace it.

The tip is the easiest DIY guide to change. I usually change the tip of my uglystik rods once they start to show this. If you polish it will come back eventually.

A tackle shop can replace it for cheap. Spots in my area do it for free-$15 depending on the rod

Take the rod to a fishing shop and they will replace the tip for like $5.

Did braided line do that?

Clear (or color) nail polish is a quick fix and will need to be reapplied once in a while. But worth it.

That’s a line cutter. You should replace that tip ASAP. Heat gun will loosen glue. Pick up a tip kit at WallyWorld for a few bucks. You’ll kick your own ass if you loose a big fish because of it!.
