Before and after photo of the same fish. I went to the pet store today, my tank is still cycling and I wanted to check on the fish that my daughter picked out. He looks different, he has lost color and his fins look damaged.
Is he okay? I was thinking of picking him up this weekend but my tank hasn’t completed the cycle yet.
What could be wrong? Will his color come back? Can damaged fins grow back?
Is there anything I could do to make him better? Any advice is greatly appreciate as a beginner.

Both photos were taken at the pet store? He seems stressed and would probably recover in a nice 5+ gallon tank with plenty of live plants. It seems like bettas color change when their environment changes, he might bring back those bright colors or they could change into something else when he’s acclimated to his forever tank.

Oh yeah I didn’t answer your question lol sorry . Color will come back once he’s out of his horrible cup home that’s filled with pee and poop and is ice cold ❄️!! Once he’s in a warm 78 degree Fahrenheit heated and filtered tank with real plants and some Catappa leafs (almond leafs ) to add some tannins and immune boost he will start becoming the most beautiful guy again and the Catappa leafs help fight off bacteria and fungus to help his fins grow back
