Right now i have two 20 gallon tanks cycling. I just started a couple days ago so they have a while before I'm comfortable putting fish in. I want to put a female betta in one of them, and I'm concerned about what else I can put with her. I think I want corydoras to help algae build up, but they are schooling fish. Same with Rasboras or Tetras.

The second tank is my boyfriends and he wants a crustacean. Like pom pom crabs or crayfish, but he also wants fish to add movement in the tank. Petsmart has golden minnows that look cool, but im worried about the crustacean eating them.

I still have plenty of time for research, and the tanks aren't fully decorated either. I want to add more plants and wood/rocks. Just wanted to be able to have some options for fish to look at before making the final roll call.

Personal experience is that it really depends on Betta’s personality. I’ve had murder betas and others that were incredibly chill and doofy. My current beta is tank mates with 8 tetras, 15 Rasbora, 2 Cory’s, two Siamese algae eaters, and like 30 shrimps. No drama.

I will say I always try to add the beta last to help this. I think it’s easier if the beta is added to an existing home rather than adding an invader to the betas home.

Not a pro fish keeper, just my experience.
