I believe this is a smallmouth buffalo, but I’ve had several people tell me it’s just a common carp. Second fish is a 22” walleye I caught the next cast! Both were caught in the mouth using a spoon on a medium light st Croix. First outing with it too!

Location? My first guess was freshwater Drum but something looks off

Looks like a smallmouth, their mouths face down. Bigmouth mouths face forward. Awesome fish, could easily be older than both of us put together. Nice walleye too.
Edit: easy way to tell common carp from the native species like buffalo, redhorse, and carpsuckers is the barbels. Common carp have them, buffalo and redhorse etc don’t.
It’s a buffalo for sure
Buffalo carp, and a walleye
Smallmouth buffalo (related to suckers).
They are a native species and NOT a carp.
Buffalo carp and zander
Idk how to explain this but the fish in the first pic looks like a default fish.
First one looks like some trash fish, not sure what. Second one is a walleye. Good catch!
Just wanted to say, what a beautiful walleye.
Freddy… The fish.
Bet that buffalo put up a hell of a fight on a med light rod. I have i think 3 St Croix now and I love them all to death. Never had any issues with one
