Currently live land locked and have a trip to Florida and may be moving to the coast very soon and wanna get my first surf combo and I’m trying to decide is the extra $120 for the mq worth it or should I just stick with the normal BG.

No MQ here but I have 3 BG’s 2 4500 & 1 4000 and zero regrets whatsoever. It’s a great reel. 4500 & 12′ penn prevail. 4500 + 11′ FT surf rod, the 4k is on my sons 10′ guardian 2.
I have another empty prevail & that will also get a BG, probably a 5k or 6k.
MQ is lighter, better for lure work and long sessions.
BG is more robust and will handle sand drops better but its heavy. The 4000 size in the BG is the last decently sized reel in that model, a good all-rounder for everything up to decent blue fish or smaller tarpon. The 5k in the BG is too big and heavy for what it is.
If your targeting bigger fish.. I would go the 6k or 8k in the BG MQ. Also look into BG SW, they are another smaller BG sold in Japan, great reel but you likely won’t get any warranty if you buy from Amazon.
The BG uses a old sizing system so the sizes aren’t the same, it is generally more robust and a bit more resistant but heavier
I dont have a great experience with the BG. I’ve had it lock up twice on the beach (never dropped in sand, but did have a wave hit me once or twice. ) It’s not sealed. If you’re dead sticking and mindful of not dropping it then go for it I suppose.
