Id probably start them with a more basic reel. A push button reel would be my go to, will save you and kid a lot of frustration at the beginning.

Get an ugly stick. As an avid fisherman I will always by a beginner an ugly stick because they’re good quality, affordable and don’t have a bad rep at all. I even by myself ugly sticks from time to time
