Since this attractive creature can’t tolerate sharing space with a same-sex mate, I believe a second 5-gallon tank is the only way I can have two male bettas. My current one is a male delta tail. He’s not particularly fancy, but he’s quite active and smart. I definitely won’t rehome him to get a more fancy betta. However, because of him, I’m really wanting a second betta. Since I live in a small apartment in the city, I don’t have the space for a few-gallon tank. I’m thinking of buying a second 5-gallon tank so I can have a second betta. Has anyone else done this? I’d love to hear about your experience and advice. Thanks!

If you can afford it and it will make you happy, do it!
I haven’t done more than 1 betta at a time but there is literally no reason you couldn’t do this.
Maybe try to set up the two tanks so they aren’t directly in close line of sight with each other…or put something opaque in between if the tanks do need to go right next to each other
Also, some unsolicited food for thought – instead of getting a fancier male, consider looking at females. Not for breeding or anything but just because females are on average noticeably more active than males (especial compared to very long-finned males) and have fun little personalities.
Happy betta hunting!
Ive got 2 betta tanks and a larger goldfish tank, got one in my living room and the other in my kitchen. They’re both 55ish litres bit more bit less, love both my boys
I had 4 (5 gallon) betta tanks at one point. It’s not much more work than 1 provided they’re all cycled before you get the Bettas. I started with 1 tank, set up a second 5 gallon as a plant overflow tank, saw a betta I liked, put it in that tank, started another one for plant clippings… Rinse and repeat.
Since you’re in an apartment, I’d check with management before you do this though. A lot of them don’t allow more than 1 tank and it can be a hassle to try hiding them during inspections.
We have two 5 gallons for our bettas, they are in different rooms so they never see one another but as long as you’re knowledgeable about cycling and stuff you should be fine
I have 4 tanks you can have, 20 gal, 10 gal, 6 gal, 14 gal
Just use some old filter media from first tank in the new tank and let it cycle first and you’ll be fine! Nothing wrong with it, though I personally recommend you get two 10s instead 🙂 less water changing is always nice
At one point I had 6 5g tanks and two 10 gallons all with bettas in them!
I have a female double tail in a 10g and last month put a super delta male in a 7g cube literally only because my daughter saw the cube and asked if she could have a tank in her room. There is some economy of scale to having multiple tanks because the tools, medicines, and plants are usually something that you buy once.
I currently have an alien betta and a giant betta in community tanks. They’re so great! It’s hard to not get two!!
At one point I had 13 males and a sorority. I took two 20gal and siliconed in barriers that had holes for water flow, but separated into 4 5gals. Each had its own filter and thermometer with a heater on each side. The other dudes were in regular tanks.
Two 5gal are very manageable.
Don’t get this crazy. Water changes become hard to keep up with.

Get one 10 gallon and put a divider in it. Make sure the divider is opaque so they can’t see each other.
First betta is still in her 3 gal until the end of the week as the 20 gal will finally have all the inhabitants acclimated (always put betta LAST).
Second betta will go into the 5.5 gal once the tankmates arrive (hopefully alive) and finish acclimating to the tank.
I got 5 betta tanks . 2 female betta ( koi female betta & blue samurai female plakat)
3 male betta ( blue samurai male plakat , blue mustard male , royal blue OHM male. )
I have personally bought a tower kind of bookshelf to keep them . I enjoy the with them. ❤️ Having multiple craves me even more to have . Hehe . My next target is black star and hellboy🤩

7 – 7 – 5
Only takes about a metre length of space on my desk! I find the cube tanks better, avoid the tall ones like the third. Feels a tad small even for my junior betta
