Trout season in New York officially opens on April 1 and runs through October 15 for most inland streams, brook trout, and some lake species. A year-round catch-and-release season exists, with some specific waters, such as lakes, ponds, and Great Lakes tributaries, featuring special regulations or year-round harvesting.
