Just looking for tips on optimizing casting distance. I just got a Shimano Exsence DC and a Stradic FM 2500, and I honestly thought my casting would be a bit more improved. The Exsence (medium heavy) has 20lb braid and I mainly throw 3/8–5/8 oz lures on it. The Stradic (medium) has 12lb Spro finesse braid and I mainly use it for 1/4–1/8 oz Texas rigs and jigs. For the Exsence DC, I have the brakes all the way open (thumbing before it hits the water), and on the right side it’s open enough for the spool to very quickly drop to the ground. I am not concerned about backlashing at all, just want to maximize casting distance on both.

My stradic flings stuff a mile and I run 30lb braid on it… are your expectations realistic?

You are going to sacrifice casting distance with braid, I don’t care what anyone tells you.

Also could be a technique thing. Sometimes if you get confident at something that leads to complacency instead of continued growth. May be getting sloppy with your wrists or elbows.

That gear, clean and in good condition, should be able to let her fly. Try some high quality mono or fluro and see if it makes a difference.
