Long time largemouth bass fisherman here, but pretty much a newbie when it comes to white bass (sand bass). I’m heading to lake LBJ this weekend and would love to hear from those of you who fish for white bass in Texas.

I’ll be staying on the Colorado River arm, so my preference is to fish that area. But if the open body of the lake is the place to be I’ll gladly head that way.

I have a number of spoons and spinners. What other tackle should I try?

I know how to work a weightless worm over the tops of submerged grass to draw out a chonky largemouth- what technique tips (from experience) do you guys have when targeting sand bass?

Does the bite slow down mid-day like it does for LMB?

Thanks in advance for the pointers!

Stick with the spoons and spinners. Maybe a white curly tail grub. If those don’t work, you’re fishing the wrong spot and need to move. If you have access to live bait, tuffy minnows on a split shot rig are deadly.

Look for places with a little current and gravel bars near deep water. If the mouths of those feeder creeks have gravel and a little current flow, focus on those areas.
