White buzz bait with a small white paddle tail swim bait as the trailer

Do I really need a trailer or should I run it without a trailer?

  1. You don’t need a trailer, but it will add a bit of weight for casting, slow the sink rate allowing for a slightly slower retrieve and add a bit more thump. You need to ask the fish when you get out on the water…

Definitely don’t need a trailer on buzz baits. Can use the if you need help keeping the bait up on top as it can add some surface area

Absolutely. Just don’t want the trailer to be so heavy that you have to burn it to keep it on top. If you haven’t ripped the skirt off and put a soft plastic frog on give that a shot. Buzz frogs slam on ponds.

  4. I’d also add that your paddle tail might lose most or all paddle action between the vibration from the blade and the fact that its mostly on top of the water. I love buzz baits, but I dont think Ive ever stuck a trailer on one.

Sometimes you’re better off without a trailer. It will cause your top water lire to sink way faster. If you really want to use a trailer get some top water soft plastics. I got a double buzz I throw a zman shadz on so I can slow down the retrieval depending on how the fish are acting.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Looks like removing the trailer is the best idea. Will do !
