i myself personally prefer females over males, for the reason that the males just make me sad when i see their long fins bc i can’t help but go to the place in my brain where i KNOW they’re tired from all the extra weight.. i only have 2 males myself i used to have 2 females, one was baby valintine and the other one was sashimi who jumped out and got eaten by my cat mouse, safe to say i got a different take after that with a better lid.. anyway, how come sooo many people just have males and not females? the females are so much more active. i say with my experience bc my male fishlix is a 10/10 lazy bum. not so much barbosa because he has two baby guppies he adopted and likes to swim with to protect against the shrimp, but before adding his daughters he was ALSO a lazy bum. i include photos of fishlix barbosa and his guppy children also i know barbosa is clamped thats been an issue since i got him i think he might just be stuck that way because he was in the same cup for 5-6 months before i got him, and his tank is absolutely pristine with not one thing wrong with it. its kinda getting better every passing day, just like REALLY slowly im not sure if he will ever fully unclamp.

You can get a male plakat instead of long finned btw. I personally also have a hard time looking at long finned bettas. I hate even going through videos and photos of the long finned bois I had in the past. All the things we found cute in the past, like the way they wiggle and move awkwardly and clumsily is really just a crippled fish struggling to move and live a normal life. I find their existence cruel and miserable. Especially now after having had plakats for a while and seeing how insanely active and agile they are, whereas the long fins would eventually just give up trying.

As for females, we had one. She was an adorable glutton. But I personally just dont like the shape of females. I don’t like how thick their body is, and some I’ve seen on here are just straight up balloons. Though im sure it also comes down to the quality of the fish and genetics. Ours was quite thicc lol I do have some wild type females though!

Omg I agree with this so so sooooo much I have two males and 1 female and my female Penelope is so cute and smart and curious and such a better swimmer and I’m telling you all my males are slow and just not as bright it is crazy 🤪 I have to say I’m definitely getting more females
