The plants will grow! Give it time. You can never have too many though. Last thing I would buy is a fake floating log for him so he can be near the surface

It’s really not that bad. I think it will look great with time, and it’s already off to a good start.

Give the plants some time to grow and the foliage will fill in really nicely. Maybe add some frogbit or red root floaters – betta like the hanging roots. They give the tank a cool natural look and are good for water stability. Also suggest adding an fern to attach to the driftwood. Otherwise, patience will pay off!

Doesnt look bad, just new. Plants need to grow a bit which takes some time. In the meantime, never hurts to add more haha

  4. Im not sure what looks so bad. Its just not an aquascaped tank… And thats fine. People compare their setups to the highly manicured pictures that get posted, but its not required. Its also a different philosophy… to me, my plants are what I enjoy so I spend a lot on them, my fish and shrimp just get the secondary benefit. Enjoy your betta/pet. You can always add plants a few at a time as budget permits. Not to mention that hornwart can be cut in half once it roots and the tops replanted. In a few weeks you will have more than you know what to do with.

Remember its a journey and a life long hobby. You will get disappointed unless you change your perspective/attitude… otherwise this will just be another abandoned betta fish that meets a slow demise. So keep tweaking, let things grow out, learn from others and you can always rescape in 6 months. DM me and if you are in the US I can send you some beginner friendly stems next time I trim one of my tanks. You got this, and I think the tank is a great start!

  5. this tank had an amazing foundation… you should trim the plants every once in awhile to encourage growth. I usually buy busy plants and trim them to make them MORE bushy.

Not bad looking whatsoever, according to my eyes and what I’m seeing, I see a vision of beauty and love and hard work and money spent!!! I think you have done great! Over time things will acclimate and you will soon enjoy I hope so at least I know if that was my tank i would be quite happy with myself.

Re arrange the rocks and add more plants. Smaller ones in the front bigger in the back. Make the substrate slope from small in front to big in back

Is the light we see in the back the only one? If so right now the tank is in backlight which can make everything look darker and gloomier. If you move the light to the front or the center it might make you fish and some of your colors pop more.

The plants will grow but you could add some more Java ferns those are always good fillers and some lobelias those add color so it’s not so black and green I always like to add those and the when ur money is good again you can try some floaters but I feel like u would like it more if you added some lobelias and some tannins

I think it looks really good you know what someone told me to make the gravel higher in the back to create dimension and then add higher plants in the back then mid level in the middle like lobelia and then Anubias in the front but I think it looks really good 👍

  11. Don’t worry, the hornwort will grow super fast. When it reaches the top just snip it off about halfway and plant the new plant right next to the old one. Boom, immediately more density! 🙂 Give it time
