Hello. I have a 20L tank that has been set up since september 2025, with my male betta, Henri, and a lot of snails that sometimes serves as snack for him, just like the microfauna I put in it. I wonder if I can add some shrimp. I haven't decide which type yet, as I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I took a screenshot of the four I'm considering.

Some bettas are ok with shrimp, one thing I may try is to get a little feeder shrimp and see if it eats that first (like a pet store cherry) before spending money on expensive snacks. They can be hit or miss when it comes to predatory nature. My female betta did ok. Males will be more likely to eat and if he is eating snails he will likely eat shrimp.

  2. I’ve kept 3 bettas with shrimp successfully (so far lol), two males and one female, but for two of them the shrimp were introduced to the tank and established before adding the betta. I added my most recent betta to an established tank with shrimp this past weekend and he spent the whole day trying to eat the shrimp. They were too quick for him, so he tries less now after a few days, but he still tries. The female betta that was previously in that tank never even tried to go after the shrimp that I saw

Some bettas won’t bother them, most will hunt them. I’ve heard there’s higher success when you add the betta to an already established tank with shrimp, but I’ve never had success
