I have a 20 gal long fishtank with amano shrimp, some corydoras, and a german ram. Last night when i went to feed my fish i spotted what appears to be a fully cooked shrimp the same size as my amanos. The tank is heated to like 76F and when i saw the shrimp i immediately felt the water which felt like the normal temp.

I have not cooked shrimp lately so no chance of it falling in from me. I live alone so couldnt have been put there by someone else. I did not take it out to investigate and idek what i would investigate if i did take it out. Does anyone know what couldve happened?

So you haven’t even taken it out to look at it and you’ve come to the conclusion that it’s cooked? Let’s use some common sense.

It’s deshelled and everything that’s insane, is there any chance the food you feed your animals include shrimp? Maybe it wasn’t fully processed by the factory and out into the pallets, so somehow ended up being a full sized shrimp?

  3. Not cooked, more like failed molt or just dead for a bit longer and discolored and nibbled on by tankmates

shrimp that have been dead for a while sometimes turn red and rubbery like they were cooked, bes prob just been dead for a minute

A number of proteins and pigments in shrimp “cook” at tropical temperatures when the shrimp dies. It’s not really cooked but it can give that appearance.

  6. When shrimp die, they turn this color as well. One of your Amano shrimp is longer alive.
