Hey guys, this is Beau 💕 I got him this past Saturday on a whim at a 99cent discount store. I had a job interview and wanted to kill some time after and walked into the store to see stacks of betta fish in small containers. I saw beau and couldn’t resist I had to buy him. I’ll admit I’d done no research at all on betta fish care and needs, I didn’t even know they were called betta fish until I looked at the fish food packet. Anyways I went shopping for him and got a 5 gallon. I only have 1 plant at the moment (Anubias) and plan on getting more soon. Be honest, how does Beau look? He’s way more active than when I found him and it’s only been a day into his new tank but I kinda expected his coloring to be brighter. Idk how to feel tbh I think I did well for now but I’m a beginner so there’s always room for improvement. Pls help a girl :/

  1. More context: yes I have a filter, and heater and the temp is at 80. I’m planning on doing a 25% or 50% water change tmrw

He looks considerably more perked up! I would recommend getting the API master kit (tests PH, Amonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate) for monitoring water parameters, this is available on Amazon and occasionally at Petco

But if you are worried about time, I know Walmart sells an ammonia and nitrite test kit (waste toxicity monitoring) both of these ideally should be at zero, if not, I would recommend daily 50% water changes. Petco also sells a wide range imagitarium PH kit.

Of course I would recommend the API test kit, but if you are in a time crunch, these options will let you know what you need to do.

Google and reddit will also be your friend 🙂
