Hey y’all. Really need help on figuring out what know to use. I’ve tried the perfection knot, non slip mono knot, and albright, but also don’t want to have to cut into my fly line. What should I do? Do i need to swallow my pride and cut off the premade loop on my line? I’ve been sitting here for 3 hours trying to figure this out. (I’ll be fishing for Tarpon, Snook, and needlefish mainly).

Picture above of how thick the line is.

What’s wrong with a perfection loop? That’s the standard loop to loop connection knot.

Is that 50lb mono? I guess perfection knot is too bulky? I would just do a clinch knot onto the loop.

  3. I have fought multiple 60-100lb pound tarpon on perfection loops with welded flyline loops.

I believe that any knot you make will inevitably have a section that wraps around the fly line loop and thus it cuts into the fly line when a fish pulls. These cuts are bound to happen on that welded loop and in my experience have a very negligible effect on the lines performance. I use the perfection loop because its reliable and easy. If you cut the loop off wouldn’t that just have the same effect as the knot cutting into the welded loop? The mono core will be exposed either way i think.

I’ve always done a nail knot but started it through the loop if this makes sense. It cinches down around the loop nicely and cannot slip off the fly line. This way you keep your loop but have a cleaner knot than a loop to loop.
