Hi all, looking for some help. I usually cut the loop off my fly line and add a section of butt material to the fly line with a nail knot. I recently got an infinity clear fly line, and I cannot for the life of me get a nail knot seated on the clear tip fly line. It either cuts through the fly line completely when I cinch it or it slips right off. Any tips? Thanks.

  1. Albright knot, since you’ve already cut off the welded loop I’d otherwise be suggesting that you use.

  2. Out of curiosity, what is the advantage of not using the welded loop? Just cleaner passage through the guides?

Almost like…the fly line was designed to be used with a loop to loop connection…

  4. Literally about a tie nail knot right now😂. I took apart an empty pen and cut a piece of the ink reservoir tube off to feed the line through and then slowly pull down the loops individually that’s been helping a lot. I will say fat fingers do not help in my case lol

Yeah that clear material that SA uses is much softer than most opaque fly lines. I’d suggest either using an Albright knot or a snell knot. Otherwise you could try adding a premade braided loop.
