So if you saw my last Reddit post, you would know that I saw this baby in Petco yesterday and I was asking about his chances of surviving. So I decided to see if he would be alive today and if he was, I would take him home which that’s what happened. I was not able to l get him surrendered to me, but I was able to get a discount.

To address some comments, I saw some of you guys were curious on why I go to Petco in the first place, even though I don’t really support their betta business. The reason is that I like to look at the animals and interact with them. It’s fair if you criticize me for buying this betta, I understand.

I did try to do my research on baby battles before getting him, but I do have a few questions if anyone knows how to answer them. I was told to feed him a very diverse diet, I currently have shrimp and betta bug bites. I know I should be feeding him three times a day and then in a month I should be feeding him two times a day, but I’m not sure how much exactly to feed him for pallets. I know they need to be crushed up. How many pallets should be crushed up when I feed them to him. Also, how much of the frozen brine shrimp should I feed him per meal?

I also saw someone recommend putting chemicals in the water like kanaplex just to make sure he doesn’t have any sicknesses. This is OK right? I don’t want to disrupt the tank or anything and harm him at this age.

I have not named him yet. His name will still be baby boy until he gains his colors and then I will start asking for name recommendations. I was thinking of naming him Rainbow because of a rainbow baby because if he survives, this will literally be a miracle.

I will be taking advice, but I will also continue to be researching. I am very positive that he will make it though. And I will I will give you guys updates

Congrats ! I honestly don’t know if I’d be able to leave him/her either…. even though I personally don’t support pet stores selling bettas that was definitely one of those tugging on heart strings moments!

So excited to hear about your journey and I hope everything works out well with baby Rainbow !!

And don’t add any kanaplex unless necessary. It’s a waste of meds . You can go a more natural route if you want to make sure he’s bacteria and fungus free. Such as boil catappa almond leafs for 6 mins in 4 cups of water , add 0.5 teaspoons per gallon of rainbows 🌈 tank of aquarium freshwater salt by api to the pot , let fully dissolve . Then bump his heat up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Add some api stress coat plus and a couple drops of prime let it cool to room temp and pour the entire pot into the tank . Let it sit for 7-10 days after that time start doing small water changes like 30 percent each time to weed out the salt . Also remove the catappa leafs after 10 days because they will start to rot and raise ammonia levels and all the benefits are mostly gone after 10 days just replace them if you want tannins if not just continue water changes to remove the tannins and salt . And please don’t feed any pellets I don’t care what people say I don’t think there good for bettas at all I’ve seen so many with bloat and constipation and swim bladder issues and I have a hunch that pellets are a cause of these issues . Just feed frozen omega one blood worms and omega one carnivore and you can also get freshwater San Francisco Bay frenzy 4 food groups that’s all they will ever need : think about it what bettas in the wild eat pellets ? Or flakes ???? None lol they eat bugs and shrimp and shit like that

For me, I had a baby betta (still do hes full grown now tho!) -for feeding, I got brine shrimp, blood worms and flu al bug bites,, FEED SMALL AMOUNTS,, baby’s are super small and will bloat from a speck,, fast a day after feeding blood worm! If he gets bloated, don’t feed for a bit. -higher tempatures!! This will promote growth and help a lot!! Keep at around 79-82 !! -make sure you have a 10 gallon atleast!! They have very strong growth hormones and need tons of room for that reason and can legit drown or will stay at a smaller size if they don’t have the proper space. -lots and lots of tannins!! if that tank doesn’t look brown as hell u need moreee Also u def cant assume the gender! They grow super odd and can’t really tell intill they are like 9 months old,,, mine legit had what looked like an egg spot and now is a full male.

I commented on your other post so sorry if this is repetitive I just wanna make sure u know everything!! Also for context this is my baby’s growth!!
