Ive fished a bit here and there growing up but what's some good advice? I know a good chunk of what you need to fish (Im looking for freshwater Fish primarily). I got this free tackle box and two rods; Freshwater and Salt water, does any of it look usable? They were abandoned in someone's garage. Also any safety advice for women fishing? Ive been harassed before

The Saltwater rod is a Mako and the Freshwater a Shakespeare Durango.
Most of the plastics are probably gonna be trash, hold them and stretch them a bit, if they feel fragile or tear then they’re definitely bad, any hooks might be fine if they aren’t rusted, leaders, weights and floats should be good as long as they aren’t damaged or cracked, any lures should be fine as long as the body isnt damaged or rusted, and you can just replace any hooks/split rings that are rusted for alot cheaper than buying new lures, any mono/fluoro over a year old is risky, it could be very frail and snap easily under a heavy fight, braid is good for maybe 5 years max but it really depends on the conditions its being stored in
Sorry you can’t go fishing without worrying about being harassed 😐 As an ugly dude I have no advice for you there!
A lot of the plastic stuff might be old and not worth using, but the metal weights and such are definitely good to keep.
I’d learn and practice your knots before going out. Good chance you’ll get snagged and have to cut and re-tie your line. Palomar knot is my favourite. Crankbaits (the ones that look like a fish and have a plastic lip) are great to start with IMO. No set up and you just reel them in steady and they keep their depth (the bigger the plastic lip, the deeper it dives when reeling in) so you don’t have to worry about snagging the bottom so much.
Real worms are one of the beginner go-to‘s as well! You will want a bobber for that and place it a couple feet (depends where you are) above your worm. This is a slower more sit and wait approach then casting and reeling in.
Also I’d bring pliers in case you catch something! Much easier to get hooks out with pliers.
