very very new betta owner and teenager here.
I rescued this little lady from a PetSmart this evening because she had been there since November and she was constantly flipped on her side (I thought she was dead at first). just got her into her tank (10 gallon) and she seems to be doing well I'm just really concerned she might be constipated or have something wrong with her. I know I probably don't have much time with her considering her age but I really wanna try my best to keep her healthy

Answer the mod questions lol
from one newbie to another, you shouldn’t be “rescuing” fish from petsmart, both because it helps them profit from abuse and youre inexperienced
Please don’t use distilled water in your tanks. It lacks minerals and will kill your fish. My tap water has high ph, so I like to use spring water in my tanks.
As for the fish being on its side, thats sually a sign of nitrite or ammonia poisoning. With good water that will clear up (I’ve done it a couple of times myself). Your fishes tail looks a little rough, I would add almond leaf to your tank. Also, go ahead and get yourself an API water testing kit and a thermometer for your tank. I know for my tanks, they are all planted and I rarely have to change the water, I usually just do it when I vacuum the bottom. What you’re looking for is zero ammonia and zero nitrite. Low to zero nitrates. I tested my last bettas cup water for fun and to see and her water was high in everything. She was also floating on her side as well as bloated. 1 week in good water and she now rules her little 10 gallon tank. Also, you said she’s been there since November, ans most pet stores get them in pretty young, so expect to have her for a couple of years. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
