Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice about my betta fish. Over the past few days/week he seems more lethargic than usual and has slowly stopped eating. He is not swimming actively and I noticed his damaged fins

Here are the details of my setup:

– Tank size: 5L

– Temperature: ~26°C (79°F)

– Filter: yes (standard internal filter)

– No tank mates

– I do partial water changes regularly (recently did ~20–30% daily over the last couple days)

– I use water conditioner every time

I’m doing more frequent water changes in case it’s a water quality issue.

Does this sound like stress, water parameters, or the start of a disease (like fin rot)? What would you recommend as next steps?

Any help would be really appreciated. I want to act early before it gets worse.

Thank you!

5L or 5g? 5L would be difficult to keep good water quality or enough swim space.
I dont keep my tank light as bright, floating plants, space to swim around, different food variety, plant roots to swim through, etc.
How long have you had this betta and in the tank?

I want to say I think your tank is really pretty!! Real plants do help though with water quality and your fishy being extra happy! Like someone else said, floating plants are great and pretty low maintenance, just need a nice light. They help dim the tank a bit and they look nice! Have you tested the water? Sounds like you are concerned about the parameters and it sounds like it may be the issue. If you don’t have an api liquid test kit I would get one asap and test! If you have almond or catappa leaves you can add that should help with stress and other possible issues! Good luck!!
